Provenance according to museum / collection
After the 'annexation' of Austria to the German Reich on 1938, it was decided to dissolve Burgenland; the southern area was assigned to Styria. Therefore, some confiscated artworks in Jewish collections in Güssing were transferred to the Joanneum in Graz, including the above named painting. It is mentioned in one of the lists of confiscated items from January 1939, on a certificates of receipt dated 1940 and on an old index card dated 1941. On the basis of the available documents, it cannot currently be linked to a specific previous owner.
