Description
Knitting sheath, possibly a souvenir article. The smooth lower part would have been put into the skirt or waistband. The upper part, in the shape of a full-bosomed woman with an oval, cap-like headdress, veil, basket with handle and an umbrella. Below the woman is a plinth, on both sides of which there is a bearded man’s head. Parts are painted red (décolleté, basket handle, umbrella, edge of plinth). At the upper end a ca. 6.5 cm long hole has been bored, into which the knitting needle would have been inserted. Corfu or Lefkada ?, Greece.
