Description
Oval rock crystal basin in gilded bronze mounting. The cartouche shaped back wall has in the upper middle a relief of a cherub between renaissance scroll work and has symmetrical meandering baroque band work embellished with foliage below on both sides. In the middle, under octagonal glass, a miniature of the Christ child, giving a blessing and with cross, in oil. Completed at top with a cross. The gilded reverse is engraved with a growth of scroll work, leaves and an apple, and has a hook for attaching it to the wall. South German, around 1600
