Description
Distaff. Stick and board carved from one piece of wood. Stick has two parts with a dark wooden cuff under the uppermost quarter, secured with an iron pin. The board has partial zigzag borders and the lower half is carved out with fine chip carving decoration on the front: geometric motifs, zigzag lines, a flower with six petals, a Greek cross, above it a stylized Greek figure. On the reverse is a spike to secure the wad of sheep’s fleece. Lefkada, Greece.
